Recently I've grown tired of the bland appearance of Windows XP and I want to change the look of it. However I don't want to sacrifice performance for looks and I was wondering if anyone has customized the look of their Windows XP install using Stardock's Window Blinds. I also found a tutorial on customizing the login and boot screens also if anyone is intrested.

So what i want to know is:
Have you customized Windows (drastically)?
What did you use to do it?
Did it affect you PC's performance?
How cool is your PC now?
Will you consider trafficing drugs for me?

I tried Window Blinds maybe two years ago and found it exceedingly shit because of the killed performance. If you have a good computer I'm sure it'll be fine though.

I will "traffic" "drugs" for you any day PEader <3

I have customized windows, not drastically. I used styleXP to do it. It didn't affect my PC's performance (1.7 Ghz, 786 RAM). My PC is uber-cool now  . I might consider trafficing drugs for you :aharr:

I installed the free/trial version of Windows Blinds. It's a bit shit to say the list. So I uninstalled it. It didn't seem to affect the performance of my PC. So I'll give this StyleXP thing a try next.

I've been using the free version of windowblinds, and it's worked pretty well, in the short time I've worked with the free version of SkinStudio, it hasn't beeni quite so good (trouble saving, and then finding the saved files), but windows now looks so much cooler.

I tried out a rake of software today all of it pretty crap. I figure all I want to do is change the Windows theme to something a bit better looking. Is there no simple way (i.e. not installing software)to do this?

Well, I've found best results with using the free version of windowblinds, coupled with chosing a theme you like from wincustomise.com and then fine-tuning anything you don't like with skinstudio (which works nicely in conjunction with windowblinds). My PC looks uber-cool now.

I have a second taskbar to the right of my screen with all games, programs, whatever. It only shows when my mouse comes near.[/url]
How do you get this second taskbar? (I can move/size my current one, but not get a second)

Yonni: rightclick on your taskbar -> Toobars -> New Toolbar... Then select a folder in which you want your shortcuts in the toolbar. As a result your taskbar will have a new toolbar with a seperator. Drag the seperator out of the taskbar into the desktop, so it will become standalone. Now drag the window to the side of the screen, so it will dock. Within the rightclick menu you can set Always on Top / Autohide.

PTR: you can customize the Windows look in Display Properties.

No you can't. This sounds like a question I would ask PTR. ;)

You could create a *.theme file or something.

The answer to my question is the reason I did not use "Display Properties" to change the theme.
