I just found out that if you run Kensuo in windows XP, everything is as expected, but if you run it in windows 98, the game will crash if you try and load a game that is 60% or more complete.

The game actually freaks out. It's supposed to draw lines with the line draw function, but it draws it in the wrong places. Then when you press a key, the game freezes (but the music keeps playing).

This does not happen when you load a game that is 50% or less complete. It also doesn't happen if you just keep playing the game. And this problem only appears to be present for windows 98 (I tried it on a different computer that has windows 98).

So in essence: if you have windows 98, you can play the game, but if you want to finish it, you'll have to do it in one go.

This problem doesn't exist with windows xp, as I've tested it on 2 XP machines.

How weird is that? Fenix 0.84a BTW...

Oh yeah, it could also be a Processor thing... The windows 98 computer had a Pentium 3, whereas both the XP machines were using AMD Athlon processors. (2800+ and 3000+).

So I dunno. That could mean my game doesn't work properly on pentiums... Is that even possible? Please tell me it's a windows 98 thing...

I've never heard of it, but to me it sounds like a memory thing. If you minimize the game (or return in some other way to windows without closing the game) when the game crashes, will you then see a messagebox?

Hm, you said you already tried it on another windows 98 pc, and I suppose it gave the same result? Try a third and be totally sure? :P Try to isolate the error if possible, or make small programs which use the same line drawing commands and save/load commands as Kensuo and see what it does.

What are the specs of all the PCs? I'd agree with Rincewind. If it was the CPUs then the Fenix code is a bug and I think we'd have noticed it by now. What version of Fenix also?

0.84a.

Pentium 3 - 733Mhz, Windows98 374mb RAM -> Problem
Amd 2800+XP, Windows XP, 1024mb RAM -> No problem
AMD64 Sempron 3000+, Windows XP 512mb RAM -> No problem

The thing is, as I stated, you can finish the game without problems in windows 98. And while playing the game, the game draws lines, so that can't be the problem.

The only difference between loading the main map after a level and loading the main map at the beginning is the use of the "load" command in fenix to load the data.

Who here still uses Windows98?

I tried it on my own computer, with windows98. Same problem, even though I've got 1 Gigabyte of RAM here. And no, I don't get any messageboxes. It just freezes period.

I don't feel like adapting to an older version of fenix though, so I guess if you're still using windows 98 and want to play my game... You'll have to finish it in one go, without quitting...

Sorry to all who still use Windows 98...
