If anyone forgot how that is, here's a quick reminder:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TXNEE6SaoI

That movie (you'll have to watch the entire movie to understand this) perfectly shows how fucked up today's society is. Look at the last part alone. "Could I text you later, are you online at all?" Pff ahahhahaha. Just shows how pathetic today's society is.

In the beginning of the movie, this guy comes home to his own house and he checks his answering machine. His ex girlfriend left him a message saying she took all of his stuff and burned some of his stuff in a pile in the back yard. Later, she remarked how heartfelt (sarcasm) it was the not she left on the table. He took the note and it said: "What do you think of this plan?" - turns the card - "Go fuck yourself". I mean, this just pictures exactly how society nowadays is. No one gives value to anyone anymore. Everyone tells everyone else to fuck off. No one cares about anybody - not even their own friends. The guys who made this movie knew exactly what was going on in today's society.

In short, today's reality is:
- you call people up, they ignore your calls and they never call you or txt you back
- people sit in their fucking basement/room all the time and they don't go out
- people always pretend that they are too busy, so in the end even best friends get alienated from each other and then later when they meet again they feel awkward

All of these elements are shown in the movie. They go back to the 80's, where life was fun and exciting, unlike today's boring and dull reality. This is also perfectly depicted in the movie.

Anyway. :)

This is how to fucking be alive!
Gosh, I feel so fucking sorry for being in these recent decades (anything after 1989). Society has become the fucking ice age.

I very much enjoyed Hot Tub Time Machine too, but am not so sure whether there's a deeper meaning about "today's society" in there. I did long to being in the 80'ies because of it, though.

I blame the internet and multimedia. Some time ago electricity went out and everyone walked on the street and were talking about it, and then continued about their lives and how many children they have and so on.. I think this is what Zomg means. I mean, using the internet you know that your "friend" on facebook who lives on the other side of the world had for dinner, but you don't know how many kids your neighbours have? I mean, that is kind of an ice age.
