what is spare time?

i know the deadline is over but still want to finish the game. The only problem is that I have not had any spare time for 2 weeks straight. I'm looking for jobs(i applied for game developer programmer) and colleges have started again. I was in the progress of texturing the kraken but that was 2 weeks ago.
Anyway here's a screenshot of the intro movie.

Let there be music and an intro movie

I have worked on the music lately. It will be using midi with hopefully a good soundfont but i'm not sure how to program that in Blitz 3D as I think it's missing that functionality(hm, maybe i should write a dll:P). But a soundfont will only be there if i have the time which is only the case if i don't enter it as competition entry because of lack of time or when everything will work out perfectly.
I might have not made games the last couple of years, but that doesn't mean I have been doing nothing.
With some music knowledge(guitar and synthesizer playing in my spare time) i can make some decent music instead of randomly placing notes what i did years ago(so chords progressions, arpaggio's etc. is no surprise anymore). I really love my Kraken Battle theme which is full of high pitched organ sounds with some distorted guitar and fast intervals replaced by slow ones. Even though it's just MIDI.

Also i have followed elective courses on the art academy(graphical design and drawing) too meaning i wil spend a lot of time on the aesthetics too. The intro movie is of a pirateship sailing on the sea all 3D rendered until the camera zooms out and you will see it's a book with title and the pirate ship as book cover opening the book and showing the 'book contents' which is the main menu. I will show you the screenshots first if i manage to get my internet connection back on my laptop which the game is currently being written on.

I hope to have a one dungeon plus the town you start in pre-rendered ready before the competition end. Dungeons are rendered in realtime while towns are pre-rendered à la Resident Evil 1. Still i have become quite a perfectionist and if i don't like something i will start all over again so i'll see if i finish something at all!

Back to the start again

Well almost back to the start again. I wanted to make a 2D-movement but still it looks 3D but all i noticed is that it was just time consuming and nothing new at all. Some things don't work in 3D either as they do in 2D like the fact it looked like my character had no eyes. It just wasn't much fun and i think platforming is not a good genre for a pirates game like this.
So I changed the idea a little bit and want to make a zelda: ocarina of time like game instead. I have a test dungeon running which exist of just squared rooms which can be run through but no obstacle and only collission detection with the rooms

As for the story: it's about Joe Turner, whose father is a pirate called Timmy and his uncle Will and he will join him on a trip. However during the trip the ship get's attacked by a kraken(yes i watched pirates of the carribbean) and his father get's kidnapped. So together with his uncle he will try to find his father again.

I hope i will get something done the first place as starting all over again is a bit annoying. Even though i used tricks to speed up like giving my character no limbs à la Rayman, but even if i don't finish it in time i will continue working on it anyway.

First Screenshot

Finally i show you guys the first screenshot.

Still not happy about it. I use too much textures now so the game runs very slow. Plus the shadows are a bit too sharp too. Might be able to do something with objects out of the screen too since it draws the entire level too.

Engine running

Besides the fact i have sometimes other things i need to do and having a busy life(and a social life compared to some of you probably:P) i haven't done as much as i hoped for. I have an engine running and now designing the first level. I'm almost in the process of rendering the shadows for the first level. It takes more time than building a 2D level. Character is almost done, needs some texturing and the animation is really really bad so far. I hope to show some screenshots soon
Still i need to do a lot of things since right now i don't like my creation since there are too many things bugging me. It's such a long time ago i made games.
