Work in Progress Games

They may not be finished but they're still scrumptious

Hovercraft Test

By DTM (version 0.1)

Search - Random

A small demo of an infinite(ly boring) landscape.

Requires OpenGL. Uses Irrlicht 3D engine and ODE for physics.

WSAD - turn and move craft
mouse wheel - zoom in/out
ESC - menu

Features:
- high polygon purple things
- spaceships with green things poking out
- lots of spiky desert
- next generation graphics

Hopefully I will turn this into an arcadey sort of game at some point. With baddies to shoot and stuff. :yay:

Well done obviously to get some 3D stuff to work in C++.

Controlling is a bit awkward still: you can freely rotate your spacecraft while going in a certain direction without actually changing your movement direction. I suppose this is not too hard to fix.

I want to see this in the "Full games" gallery some time in the future. ;)

Ditto, nice work on the 3D-C++.
The craft seems to fall unless you're pressing "s", but wont rise while thrusting, I found this very annoying.

That was pretty fun actually. If you code in some ramps and hoops. Maybe a bowl (I'm thinking all skater right now). I could see myself losing a lot of my life bouncing around in happy hover land.

Four stars, for _potential_

Enormous potential. I just wish it was more of a game.

Would it perhaps be possible to add shading on the sides of mountains? I have no idea how you would be able to do this. I guess you'd have to check the angle of a 3D face and base it's darkness on that somehow.

I wish it was too! Yes Tovi I have to auto calculate the triangle normals. and irrlicht will do the rest. but that's boring :( i'll do it at some point though :)
actually yonni "s" doesn't do anything I just wrote WSAD as it's the usual controls. The rising is based on the height above the ground, so if you're below the hover height upwards force is applied. giving the bounces as you go over hills.
thanks all for comments :D

I love this engine, really need to see it in the full games section :) I tried to loose the other spaceships cos they were being really unthoughtful (crashing into me over and over again). Obviously women drivers. I managed to loose them for a bit by getting them stuck in a purple thing.

Nice gameplay but something to get used to. Too bad I can't do any "tricks" or something yet, but that's something for a next version. The standard settings are NOT easy on azerty, so it would be cool to let a user define his own keys (press a key for accelleration... etc). Oh and some animation would be nice, now it just shows green strokes. I wouldn't care too much about details such as shading the sides of mountains yet. I'd focus on gameplay first.

Looks very promising.
