I've been playing around trying to make a cool looking intro movie for my fenix RTS (explaining the story behind the game), but what I make looks really childish so far (although I haven't concentrated a lot of time on the intro movie, as game play is much more critical).

I have chosen the idea of using processes within Fenix as the movie - a sort of simulated video - and the whole lot is then coppied to an empty graph. This is because of problems encountered with multiple resolutions.

I also tried using the mpeg dll but I couldn't get any movies to run using that. psh...

Has anyone got any ideas/views/comments about what I should do for the intro movie?

P.S. The game is a "space theme", I was wondering about having exploding planets/zooming space craft/etc.

Well you could completely program the movie in fenix (as with Woody's Turbulence) or personally if you are able to/find it easier, use mpeg/fli. I know you have had problems with mpeg in fenix, but fli playback is built since DIV days and should therefore play with minimal fuss (compared to some mpeg DLL).

If you could create better results with dedicated video software then my advice would be to use that and convert to FLI with some free program/codec.

I haven't really played around with FLI, doesn't it have to be 320x200 or something crappy like that?

I don't know if that restriction exists in fenix, but it doesn't for the format itself.

I think the problem is the sound, messes up Fenix when it has sound.

I'm really into the idea of using processes to make the movie, I'm getting some stuff that looks kinda cool now :)

If mpegs with sound are a problem, couldn't you record the sound as a separate wav and play it alongside the movie in your program?
