Ok I had an idea today, thing was on my way to the supermarket I found 4 items, I am not going to say or even hint at what these items were, so I think a competition might be in order, the winner will get what I consider the best of the 4 items, the theme I was thinking reversed retro, take a modern game and make a retro version of it,lets chat about it anyhow.... As I said it will remain a mystery prize but I promise the winner will receive it,no matter where they live (astro-terrestrial beings excluded) I suggest the dates of the competition be between the 20th july and the 2nd september( kinda school holidays) [Edited on July 3, 2008 by raverdave] ____________ Gimme my toetag already... |

not 4 prizes,just one,well if there isnt much interest there isnt,cant do much about that can I? I hope half a dozen at least can do something,just for a matter of variety. If this wont be the case then I'll go with what there is,as long as its more than one of course, one thing I will say is that i dont give a toss about graphics markings,I cant draw for the life of me so graphics arent gunna be a mark whatsoever,gameplay,pure gameplay lads (and maybe lasses?! ____________ Gimme my toetag already... |

wtf?! If I would like for example turn Crysis into a retro game! how will I be able to visualize it without making good looking graphics?!?!?!? graphics must be an issue just like everything else!!! Im not the best coder so I know other coders will program the game better then me! so at least I have my graphics skills to aid me in this

2D CRYSIS HOLY SHIT!!!! every normal computer could actually play crysis!! So are we doing the compo, or not? I can join in, but I'll have to start pretty soon... Edit: Here's my suggestions: (based on an earlier compo) - Teams of up to 2 people - Dates: 1st August - 10th September - All code graphics music and sound mad from scratch (will any exceptions be needed in a retro game?) - No pornographic, racist or discriminating content Here's my questions: - How close does the game have to stick to the original to be considered an unmake? Presumably yes, as platforming is a retro gameplay element. But for it to constitute as a Halo 'unmake' (i like that term) it would have to contain some gameplay elements either from halo or to give the flavour of halo. For example a shield system, and perhaps dual weaponing and charge up plasma pistols. Just an idea. I think we should go all the way and force you to make the game in 8 bit. http://youtube.com/watch?v=hGom_CCz4so proves it can be done for laughs (which is what this kind of competition would be about). so,are we in,or a few at least? lets get this official huh? its kinda a few days past the initial starting date already.. Btw 3d games like fps's arent that hard to do as 2d, look around for the half life example, they did one i believe,or someone did, mostly i would go with a top/down shooter, like man with gun! a few examples but i cant think of em
